The customer required Sasken to come up with a solution for improving FM radio reception.
The customer, a major forest harvester manufacturer, had problems with FM radio reception. This did not compromise machine functionality, but kept causing serious inconvenience to operators, which was indicated as negative feedback from the field.
After studying the machine design from 3D models provided by the customer, a simulation was used to indicate where radio antenna should be located to solve reception issues. It was determined that the machine boom was the main culprit blocking the antenna in some machine orientations. A new proposal for antenna location was presented to the customer and field tested in the next prototype.
Reception issues were solved, and negative feedback stopped, leading to restoration of the product's reputation.
