Sasken was involved in the development of an automatic ceiling mounted camera and guidance system for public parking garages. The system automatically identifies parked cars, monitors them, and calculates the duration of parking to aid in billing.
The customer needed a device with a camera system to automatically read car license plates. The devices had to include LED bars and speakers for car driver guidance. The device had to be able to perform in cold and harsh environments and needed to suit parking garage installations. This system would enable the customer to develop an automatic billing system for the parking garages and sell this system to their own customers.
Sasken designed a camera-based device capable of detecting vacancies in six parking spaces, identifying parked cars within them, and transmitting this information to the main computer. The device also includes an RGB LED bar and audio functionality for driver guidance, and the potential for audio commercial playback. The camera system features a powerful processor for image processing, along with 2-port 10/100M LAN communication and power management with special features.
Sasken provided the hardware and software design for this product. Additionally, we developed a custom camera for the project by integrating a suitable image sensor, additional camera electronics, and optics into custom mechanics.
Sasken completed three rounds of hardware design, prototype testing, and type approvals for this device. Approximately five years later, we conducted a processor update to equip the product with a more up-to-date processor and suitable power management IC.
From the original project, the customer received a reliable product that they can use to build their own business.
From the update round, the customer received a new product that they can sell to new customers and further grow their business.
